But everyone is different! & some women will continue to have menstrual periods into their late 50s. At least 75% to 95% of women will experience at least one menopause symptom during their menopause ; with up to 50% and more report symptoms that disrupt  with daily life. MENOPAUSE ISN'T SOMETHING TO WORRY ABOUT!

Dont Panic - Menopause Is Different For Everyone

BUT FIRST... EDUCATE YOURSELF

WHAT IS MENOPAUSE?

Menopause is defined as a complete year without menstrual bleeding, marking the end of your fertility, your ability to get pregnant and have children, without any surgery or medical condition that may cause bleeding to stop (use of hormonal birth control, overactive thyroid, etc.) Women are born with a lifetime’s supply of eggs in their body, holding as many as 1-3 million egg cells at birth. The number of eggs decreases every year, and their decline further accelerates when a woman reaches her late 40 & eventually ending their menstrual cycle, losing the ability to reproduce egg cells. Menopause rarely occurs unexpectedly and without a transition period. For most women, it’s about 7 years for your body to adapt but can last as long as 14 years.

WHY DOES MENOPAUSE HAPPEN?

For most women, your menstrual cycle begins to ease & slow down as it prepares to stop around there late 40’s. This cycle has been continuously functioning since puberty. Over time your ovaries make less of a hormone called estrogen and your menstrual cycle (period) starts to slow, become irregular and then stop. Physical changes can also happen as your body adapts to different levels of hormones. The symptoms you experience during each stage of menopause (perimenopause, menopause and postmenopause) are all part of your body’s adjustment to these changes. However premature menopause can be a particularly difficult experience. If this happens to you, you should talk to your doctor!

WHAT ARE THE 3 STAGES OF MENOPAUSE?

A natural Menopause happens in 3 main stages, although the timing of menopause can vary from women to woman, most people’s menopause occurs as they reach there late 40s.

Perimenopause: Begins 8 to 10 years before menopause when the ovaries slowly produce less estrogen as a woman gets older. It usually starts in a woman’s 40s but can start in the 30s as well. Perimenopause lasts right up until menopause, the point when the ovaries stop releasing eggs. In the last one to two years of perimenopause, the drop in estrogen accelerates. At this stage, many women may experience menopause symptoms. Women are still having menstrual cycles during this time and can get pregnant but it may start to become irregular.

Menopause: Menopause is the point when a woman no longer has menstrual periods. At this stage, the ovaries have stopped releasing eggs and producing most of their estrogen. Menopause is diagnosed when a woman has gone without a menstrual period for 12 consecutive months.

Postmenopuase: This is the period after a woman has not bled for an entire year (the rest of your life after going through menopause). During this stage, menopause symptoms start to ease. However, some women continue to experience menopausal symptoms for a decade or longer after the menopause transition due to lower levels of estrogen.

WHEN WILL I KNOW MENOPAUSE HAS HAPPENED?

If you are in your mid to late 40s and are suffering from some of the common menopause symptoms you may be menopausal. The first symptom is usually a change in the monthly period with light or heavy periods and irregularity in their occurrence.

Every woman’s menopause experience is different. You may start to experience some symptoms up to two years before your period’s stop, a few days or weeks of symptoms followed by weeks when none occur, you may continue to have symptoms for several years after your last period. It is not unusual for some women to have occasional symptoms into their 60s and sometimes 70s. If your symptoms cause you distress, talk to your doctor. They will give you advice on managing your symptoms and may discuss medical treatments. However, the main giveaway symptoms that you’re at first most likely to notice are:

MOOD SWINGS

Some women have drastic mood swings and changes throughout each stage of their menopause, naturally feeling moodier or more irritable in times of stress. It’s possible that stress, family changes such as growing children or ageing parents, a history of depression, or feeling tired could be causing these mood changes.

HOT FLUSHES

This is the most common symptom associated with menopause. Most women have short, but powerful hot temperature change in females body, sudden feelings of heat, usually in the face, neck and chest, which can make your skin red and sweaty, During a hot flush sh, you’ll likely feel your body temperature rise. Your skin may even turn red in colour or become blotchy. This rush of heat could lead to sweating, heart palpitations, and feelings of dizziness. After the hot flash, you may feel cold. Hot flashes may come on daily or even multiple times a day and can occur at any stage of your menopause. They happen mostly without any warning but may be brought on by a hot drink (especially caffeine), spicy food, alcohol, changes in room temperature and stress.

SLEEPING ISSUES/ INSOMNIA

During all stages of the menopause, most women will have trouble getting a good night’s sleep due to hot sweats and a general overall uncomfortable feeling whilst trying to relax. Sleep deprivation can really wear a person down — triggering fatigue and a full spectrum of other health issues. Menopause might disrupt your sleep in several different ways, including through night sweats and increased anxiety or depression.

WEIGHT GAIN

Hormones drastically shape our bodies during the menopause. Without estrogen, our bodies burn fewer calories — even while sleeping — and we also burn less fat during exercise. Even if you cut calories and maintain a stable weight throughout menopause, the ongoing hormonal shift tells your body to trade in lean muscle mass for abdominal fat. Dieting might not always be the answer.

ACHES / JOINT PAINS

Most women will suffer from aches and joint pains during their menopause. Without estrogen, our bodies produce higher levels of inflammation This means arthritis symptoms could skyrocket during menopause. Over 60% of women aged 40 to 64 suffer from pain in their muscles and joints during their menopause.

OTHER MENOPAUSE SYMPTONS:

  • A reduced sex drive (libido)  Problems with memory and concentration
  • Vaginal dryness and pain, itching or discomfort during sex  joint stiffness, aches and Reduced muscle mass
  •  Recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs)

HOW DOES MENOPAUSE AFFECT ME?

Menopause can be a hard period of a women's life. In addition to the symptoms that may be tough to deal with, a lot of stressful life changes can happen around the same time as perimenopause and menopause.

Some changes you may go through during this time in your life include:

  • Anxiety about illness, ageing, and death
  • Anxiety about the future, getting older and losing independence
  • Anxiety about being disabled
  • Changes in the family, social, and personal relationships
  • Changes in identity or body image
  • Children leaving home
  • Getting divorced or losing a partner
  • Having a partner become ill or disabled
  • More responsibility for grandchildren
  • Loss of loved ones
  • Changes in your financial situation
  • Retirement

HOW MENOPAUSE CAN EFFECT YOUR MIND

While there are many causes of depression and anxiety, the symptoms of the menopause may contribute to these feelings. For example, night sweats can disturb your sleep and tiredness makes it harder to cope with stress. Your hormone levels may also affect your mood. This is often a time of change and stress for women, and this can contribute to feelings of depression.

Each one of us has an endocannabinoid system that receives and translates signals it receives from cannabinoids in the body. The purpose of the endocannabinoid system is to regulate various systems throughout your body with the cannabinoids that your body manufactures., even though our knowledge about the role of the endocannabinoid system is still evolving, the available evidence indicates that this system has multiple regulatory roles in neuronal, vascular, metabolic, immune and reproductive systems.
